City Of Jackson issued the following announcement on Sep. 08.

The DNR has added Jackson as a city that has a Special Deer Hunt for the archery season September 17-December 31.  The zone created for the City of Jackson is 928.  No special permits are required for this hunt from City Hall.

Archery hunting has been allowed in city limits for years but only on private property with permission from the landowner.  This has not changed.  No hunting will be allowed this year on city owned property.

Once you buy an Archery tag, you can buy up to (2) of the Resident Bonus Antlerless tags for $19 each for zone 928.  So you could have up to three tags overall.  Any deer harvested in city limits should use zone 928 when you register it.  Here are the scenarios that could happen:

1.  Buy an Archery license and harvest one deer – really no changes from current arrangement/laws

2.  Buy an Archery license and one Antlerless bonus tag for 928/Jackson City hunt and harvest up two deer (two doe; or a buck and doe) in city limits.  * A buck would have to be registered using your standard Archery license.

3.  Buy an Archery tag and two Antlerless bonus tags for 928/City hunt and harvest two doe.  That hunter could then harvest a third deer (buck or doe), but it would have to be outside of city limits/928 due to the 2 deer harvest limit set for Jackson city limits.
