Cottonwood County: 1.3% more students were enrolled in 2024-25 school year

There were 1,916 students enrolled in Cottonwood County schools in the 2024-25 school year, 1.3% more than the previous year, according to reports from the Minnesota Department of Education.

In terms of gender distribution, the student body in Cottonwood County comprised 52.2% boys, with girls representing the remaining 47.8%.

Data also showed that white students made up 57.8% of the student body, the largest percentage in Cottonwood County schools, followed by Hispanic students with 25.8%, 6.5% Asian students, 4.4% multiracial students, 2.3% Hawaiian Pacific Islander students, 1.8% American Indian students, 1.4% Black students and 0.1% Other Indigenous Peoples students.

Windom Area Elementary had the highest enrollment among Cottonwood County's seven schools in the 2024-25 school year, welcoming 493 students.

With more than 870,000 students enrolled, Minnesota's public school system is the 10th-largest in the United States. As of 2025 the student-to-teacher ratio in the state’s public schools is 15 to 1, on par with the national average.
