Were students of Fairmont Area School District able to meet MCA and MTAS Math testing expectations in 2021-22 school year?

Fairmont Area School District ranked first in the Martin County for test participation, with 874 students taking the Math portion of the Minnesota Comprehensive Assessment and the Minnesota Test of Academic Skills in the 2021-22 school year, according to the Minnesota Department of Education.

The number of Fairmont Area School District students taking the tests in the 2021-22 school year rose by 0.9% over the previous year.

Fairmont Area School District's students achieved an average Math proficiency rate of 41% in 2021-22 school year.

Third grade students stood out with 26% of them exceeding standards in Math, which was the highest recorded proficiency at the district.

On the other hand, eighth grade students had the most room for improvement, with 39% not meeting the expected standards.

Fairmont Area School District encompasses schools within Martin County and has a main office in Fairmont.

Minnesota students take the MCA annually (or the MTAS, for students with cognitive disabilities) to determine their academic readiness. Not every grade is tested each year.

Analysis from the Nation’s Report Card showed Math and Reading scores have fallen significantly in the last decade. Science scores have been steady in recent years.

Minnesota Department of Education issues could lead to data irregularities.
