WINDOM AREA CHAMBER OF COMMERCE: POET is the world’s largest producer of biofuel and a global leader in sustainable bioproducts

Biofuel

Windom Area Chamber Of Commerce issued the following announcement on Oct. 27.

Today we are highlighting POET Biorefining.

POET is the world’s largest producer of biofuel and a global leader in sustainable bioproducts. We create plant-based alternatives to fossil fuels. POET’s suite of bioproducts include bioethanol, Dakota Gold and NexPro feed, Voilà corn oil, purified alcohol, renewable CO2 and JIVE asphalt rejuvenator. POET has about 40-45 employees.

POET Bingham Lake procures approximately 12 million bushels of corn in the area annually. We also provide the local feed market with 93,000 tons of high quality feed annually. The other direct economic benefits include property tax payments and jobs created during construction, as well as for the long-term maintenance of the project. Additionally, bioethanol and partner facilities will benefit for years to come — creating value for corn and expanding markets for biofuels, securing hometown jobs and generating local income and tax revenue.

POET Bingham Lake was commissioned in 1997 and have been operational for 25 years. As POET looks toward what is next  -- and at what type of world we want to leave our children and grandchildren – we realize that there is always room to think bigger. We intend to go all in, charting a path toward carbon neutrality while bringing value to rural America, engaging team members, and strengthening our internal commitment to sustainability. POET has set six goals to help guide us toward a more sustainable future for everyone. The goals have been separated into two pillars – one that is focused on investing in technology and improving our overall operations, and one focused on advocating for a sustainable society.
