Florence Township issued the following announcement on Aug. 20.
Notice to Residents: Representatives from Assessor's Office walking neighborhoods.
Please be aware that representatives from our Tax Assessor's staff will be walking thru neighborhoods in the community for the next several weeks (Including weekends).
Today our police department received inquiries regarding an individual possibly looking at their properties. One resident noted that the individual was wearing an ID badge but it was expired. Several members of our administration were contacted to confirm the validity of the individual and current badges will be prepared this week.
We greatly appreciate the proactive response by our community, especially noting that a badge was outdated. Additionally, ALL solicitors are required to visit our police department window to apply for a solicitors permit. They go thru an approval process and are required to wear identification that must be visible at all times. There are specific approved hours allowed for solicitor's to canvass neighborhoods.
Please be mindful and discuss with your family safe practices when someone approaches your home. Look for visible identification. Do not open your door and allow individuals into your home if you are not comfortable. No solicitor should attempt to enter a home without being invited by an authorized adult that resides in your home. Always keep your doors locked, including storm doors.
Always report what you see to our police department and if you are comfortable, encourage a solicitor to visit the township municipal building during normal business hours to apply for a solicitor's permit.
To those that reported to the Florence Twp Police Department, we thank you for your support! Great Job!
