The Minnesota GOP recently released a statement in response to the governor’s decision to shut down local businesses and suspend youth sports.
Gov. Tim Walz recently implemented public health restrictions closing bars, restaurants, fitness centers and other related businesses in response to surging coronavirus cases.
According to the Minnesota GOP’s statement, this decision will further hurt already struggling businesses as we enter the holiday season, which is the busiest time of year for many businesses.
“This has already been a difficult year for Minnesota’s small businesses and Gov. Walz is not even giving them a fighting chance,” read the statement.
Walz also suspended youth sports as part of the public health restrictions.
“Shutting down youth sports is probably the worst decision Walz has made throughout the pandemic,” said the GOP in response to the suspension. “The data shows that youth sports aren’t responsible for the spread of the virus. Given the mess that public schools are in right now, sports is the only normal thing that a lot of kids have in their lives. This decision will set off a cascade of unintended consequences for an entire generation of Minnesotans.”
The current health restrictions have been scheduled to be in place through Friday, Dec. 18.
