In October, the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED) celebrated the critical role of manufacturing companies in the state's economy.
Officials said that manufacturing companies contributed close to $52.7 billion to the state’s economy in 2019. They also say that manufacturing is the state’s second-largest industry.
Additionally, the industry is the largest sector as measured by its "share of the state’s gross domestic product at 14% in 2019."
Minnesota’s manufacturers provide many of the things that Minnesota residents use every day. They supply everything from edible items to complex machinery to necessary medical equipment.
Additionally, Minnesota shipped $21 billion worth of products in 2019. Products then get delivered to countries around the world.
“Many Minnesota manufacturers are hiring now, and they offer good-paying, family-sustaining jobs,” said DEED Commissioner Steve Grove in a press release. “All month, we’ve focused our efforts on getting the word out to Minnesotans looking for work now: Explore the many promising employment opportunities in manufacturing.”
