City of Madelia issued the following announcement on Oct. 12.
The City of Madelia Water Department will be flushing water mains October 19th through October 26th. The city flushes the mains to keep the mains open and flowing with the least amount of matter in the lines. The reason the mains are flushed on weekends rather than during the week is due to the fact that a significant amount of water is used during the week and the city wells cannot provide the water needed to operate industries, provide water to homes, have a reserve for fire protection and flush water mains all at the same time.
If you have discolored water, after the flushing has been completed in your area, run your tap water until the water is clear. The discolored water is iron buildup and is not harmful to individuals.
