In the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, businesses and entrepreneurship has been heavily affected.
To help encourage entrepreneurship, the Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe has received a grant worth $150,000 to fund businesses and establish an incubator to encourage entrepreneurship, according to the Brainerd Dispatch.
This fund was provided by the Minnesota Disaster Recovery Fund for Coronavirus. This fund was established to help organizations and people around the state find an easier path to recovery in the midst of the pandemic that has rocked the nation and the world.
The funds will be used to create a business incubator program to get new businesses off the ground and provide them with much-needed funding in their early stages. As for the tribe, a recent realization was made by tribe leadership that the band is too reliant on key industries. This application is an attempt to diversify the professions and businesses within the tribe. It is hoped that this will provide for more economic security for everyone in the tribe.
