In a crowded and contentious race for Minnesota’s Seventh Congressional District, former state Lt. Gov. Michelle Fischbach is the last one standing for the Republican nomination.
It will fall upon Fischbach to break Democrat Collin Peterson’s 30-year stranglehold on the seat. Fischbach received endorsements from President Donald Trump and the state GOP to gain momentum and knock off closest challenger Dave Hughes by approximately 40%, Fox News reported.
After the win, Fischbach tweeted, “Together, we’ve built incredible momentum across the Seventh District and tonight we won a decisive primary victory! The liberal elite have reserved millions to attack me and prop up their pal Collin.”
Fischbach entered the race with political experience and a $350,000 advantage but had distractions such as a restraining order on her campaign manager by Hughes along with FEC complaints based on Fischbach receiving funding from PACS controlled or influence by her family in the amount of $20,000, Fox News reported. The Cook Political report has called the race a toss-up.
