City of Belview issued the following announcement on July Aug. 1.
The City of Belview has an ordinance regarding open burning within city limits. For a complete copy of the ordinance stop by the City Clerk's Office.
While recreational fires are permitted the site must meet certain requirements. Recreational fires are to be no more than three foot in diameter (measured from the inside of the fire ring or border); completely surrounded by non-combustible and non-smoke or odor producing material and shall not be located closer than 50 feet from any structure.
You are not to burn wood that is green, with leaves or needles, rotten, wet or oil soaked or treated with paint, glue or preservatives. You are not allowed to burn garbage in a recreational fire.
Recreational fires shall be attended by an adult at all times and extinguished completely before quitting. Be respectful of weather conditions, neighbors, burning bans and air quality
so that nuisance health or safety hazards will not be created.
Burning barrels are not allowed.
Any person violating the provisions of the ordinance shall be guilty of a petty misdemeanor which depending on the severity of the violation could carry with it a fine and possibly even jail time.
