Lyon County and Lincoln County will share an emergency manager under a new agreement, the Marshal Independent reported.

Dan DeSmet resigned in May as Lyon County emergency manager to take a position with the Upper Sioux Community, the story stated.

Lyon County commissioners agreed to share Lincoln County’s emergency manager, paying for 16 hours a week plus mileage, said Lyon County Administrator Loren Stomberg, the Independent reported.

“Unfortunately, we were not able to get a rate,” Stomberg said, adding that the pay would be based on Lincoln County emergency manager’s current salary, invoiced monthly.

There is precedent for the arrangement. Other Minnesota counties such as Stevens and Big Stone already share emergency managers, Stomberg said.

It’s possible the shared emergency manager would be able to work more than 16 hours in the event of a natural disaster, Stomberg said in response to a question by Lyon County Commissioner Paul Graupmann.

The commissioners voted unanimously to approve the agreement with Lincoln County, the story stated.
