The coronavirus continues to spark change locally and nationally, as the pandemic has now altered the tax administration, according to Pipestone County Star.

The publication reported that local entities around the county have the choice to have video calls or move their Local Boards of Appeal and Equalization authorities over to the Pipestone County Board of Appeal and Equalization.

The city has already OK'd the major change as of Friday, March 27 ahead of the local board’s scheduled meeting for April 7. The change of authority going to the county is referred to as “open book,” according to Pipestone County Star.

For property owners looking for a property tax adjustment, the change will call on them to stand in front of the Pipestone County Board of Appeal, instead of the Pipestone City Councilors.

Inquiries and concerns about property assessment will also go to Pipestone County Assessor Joyce Schmidt, who can sit down with property owners over the phone to officialize any approved alterations.
