CITY OF CANBY: 2019 City of Canby Deer Hunt

Deer

City of Canby issued the following announcement on Oct. 14.

The City of Canby Deer Hunt for 2019 is coming up quickly. Below you will find the rules and regulations as well as links for the rules and regulations and the application.

RULES AND REGULATIONS

ARCHERY DEER HUNT

Thank you for your interest in the 2019 City of Canby Deer Control Program.  With the assistance of the local Department of Natural Resources (DNR) office, Canby has developed a controlled archery hunt to be conducted in designated areas.  A general description of the 2019 program follows:

All laws and regulations of the State of Minnesota will be enforced.

Must be a currently licensed archery hunter.

Hunting will be by Special permit for anterless only and a total of 20 permits will be issued.

The Hunt will be conducted between September 14, and December 31, 2019.

A required proficiency test for all applicants will be held Saturday, September 7, 2019 administered by Canby Sportsmen’s Club from 12:00pm-1:00pm at the Sportsmen’s Club site off from the Fairgrounds Road.  If more than 20 hunters pass the proficiency test a drawing from the group that meet the testing qualifications will be held.

You must choose a zone to hunt in.  City will set quotas of hunter per zone.  There are two zones.  One by the city brush dump, the other on the Consolidated Concrete land.

The land owned by Consolidated Concrete is “Weekend/holiday” and after 6:00 p.m. on week days as to not interfere with their work schedule.

To assist in collecting the deer population data you are required to submit a record of days hunted, number of deer seen, and sex of deer while hunting by February 1, 2020.  If this is not done, you will be excluded from hunting in the 2019 season.

The city will have a roster of qualified hunters with name, address, and phone number of each hunter on file at city hall.  When you fill your tag the city will require the hunt/harvest data be returned to the city hall that is specified in rule #8.

A handbook and tags are available at Independent Oil.

Each hunter will have a defined area and will not interfere with other hunters.

Hunting will be allowed only in the designated zones.

Harvested deer to be registered per DNR regulations.  Electronic Licensing Station (ELS) locations will issue a harvest tag.

Application form must be in the city office no later than Friday, August 30, 2019 by 12:00 Noon to be considered.

Administrative fee of $5.00 (payable to the City of Canby) is due with the application.

This hunt is an either sex hunt.  The bonus permit provided through the city is only good for an antlerless deer.  To shoot a buck you must use your regular license.

The city retains the right to remove any hunter’s privileges for violating the established rules.

Must respect the property that is being used.

The city requests that hunters be as “discrete” as possible so as not to affect the public’s daily schedules and routines.

The City reserves the right to terminate any and all hunting within one week’s notice.
