City of Cottonwood issued the following announcement on Sept. 15.
Do you want sewer back ups? Because 5 inches of rain, illegal discharging into the sanitary sewer, and full ponds is how you get sewer back up!
At 3AM this morning, flows at our main lift station were over 1,000 gallons per minute. Everyone in town would have needed to be up using the restroom, taking a shower, or washing laundry to have those types of flows. Since that is not the case, these flows are a large indicator that downspouts and sump pumps are illegally discharging storm water into the public sanitary sewer system. Therefore, please do your part and make sure that you are discharging sump pumps and downspouts outside into your lawn.
