The Martin County Planning Commission and Board of Adjustment announced on May 6 that a public hearing will take place on May 26 at 5:30 p.m. The meeting will be held in the Martin County Commissioners Room, located on the first floor of the Courthouse at 201 Lake Avenue in Fairmont, Minnesota.

The purpose of the hearing is to consider a variance request from Bradley Schmidt regarding property within Section 22 of Lake Belt Township. Schmidt is seeking permission to build a new home and driveway closer than current zoning regulations allow. The proposed construction would be nearer than the required setback from both the ordinary high-water level and the road right of way in an “SL-1” Special Protection District.

According to county zoning rules, any structure in an “SL-1” Special Protection District must have a setback of at least 200 feet from the ordinary high-water level and at least 50 feet from the road right of way. Schmidt’s request seeks relief from these requirements so that his planned home and driveway can be built closer to these boundaries.

The commission said that anyone interested may attend or participate in this hearing, either personally or through an agent or attorney. Participation is not limited only to those who received formal notice; residents are encouraged to inform neighbors or affected property owners who may not have received this information about the upcoming hearing.

This public process allows community members to express their support for or opposition to such requests before any decisions are made by local authorities.
