The Minnesota Department of Education reports fifth-graders at Ellsworth Elementary School had the highest participation rate for the mathematics section of the 2024-25 MCA.
In total, 45 students completed the mathematics MCA at Ellsworth Elementary School, with 11 of those students in the fifth grade.
Based on test standards, 36% of fifth-graders were found proficient in mathematics.
The MCA and Alternate Minnesota Comprehensive Assessment (Alt MCA) serve as Minnesota’s statewide tools to measure student achievement and meet legislative testing requirements. These exams assess math, reading, and science depending on a student’s grade. While most students take the MCA, eligible special education students may participate in the Alt MCA.
Statewide proficiency on Minnesota’s MCA exams has decreased compared to pre-pandemic periods, according to Minnesota’s Report Card. Math proficiency declined by more than 7% from 2019, and reading proficiency dropped nearly 5%.
