The MCA and Alternate Minnesota Comprehensive Assessment (Alt MCA) serve as statewide tests to gauge student progress toward Minnesota’s academic standards and adhere to state and federal requirements. Assessments are offered in math, reading, and science, based on each student’s grade level. Most participants take the MCA, while those in special education and who meet criteria may take the Alt MCA.
According to Minnesota’s Report Card, overall proficiency in MCA state assessments has fallen when compared to pre-pandemic figures. Math proficiency decreased by over 7% since 2019, while reading proficiency dropped by nearly 5%.
